Updated Dog Vaccination Guidelines at Berwick Vet: What Pet Parents Need to Know

by | Aug 28, 2025

At Berwick Veterinary Hospital, we’re always working to provide the best care possible for your pets. That’s why we’ve updated our dog vaccination routine to align with the latest recommendations from the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).

What’s Changing?

Traditionally, dogs received a yearly C5 vaccination. Now, following international gold-standard guidelines, your pup only needs the core vaccines—Parvovirus, Distemper, and Adenovirus—once every three years.

But don’t worry—your dog will still receive protection against canine cough (kennel cough) every year. This is especially important for social pups who love:

  • Doggy daycare

  • Grooming visits

  • Playdates at the park

What This Means for You and Your Dog

  • Simpler schedule: One quick under-the-skin injection + one tasty oral vaccine each year.

  • Faster protection: The oral vaccine works quickly, so your pup can safely get back to daycare, the park, or socialising sooner.

  • Fewer unnecessary vaccines: Less stress for your dog, while still maintaining full protection.

  • Personalised care: Our vets will tailor a vaccination plan to suit your dog’s age, lifestyle, and health needs.

Why Update Now?

Science evolves, and so does veterinary medicine. By adopting WSAVA’s updated guidelines, we’re reducing unnecessary vaccinations while keeping your pets protected at the highest level of care.
