Dental disease is a common condition affecting cats and dogs. There are many prophylactic measures which can be instituted to keep the teeth clean and protect them from tartar accumulation. These include:
- teeth brushing
- dental care diets; and
- bones
We often see pets which are affected by tartar and gingivitis. You may first notice changes in your pets’ breath. In these cases, a professional scale and polish is required. This is performed under a general anaesthetic to allow full assessment of the dentition. If required, x-rays of the affected teeth can be taken with our dental x-ray machine.
We have a full dental suite at our disposal, which includes a high and low speed drill, ultrasonic scaler and polisher. This minimises trauma to the mouth and improves post-operative recovery.
