BRAVERY AWARD MARCH 2022

by | Mar 31, 2022

Mr. Otto, the beautiful 3 year old Border Collie, decided to have a very close inspection of a running chainsaw recently!  He ended up in far better shape than would be expected, however he still needed a little bit of assistance from us

Beautiful Otto has been a frequent flyer at vet clinics from a very young age.  With a rough start being bounced around a few different homes as a puppy, he well and truly landed on his feet with his current owners who just think the world of him.  When Otto was younger, he was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Polyarthritis, with some of his symptoms being lethargy and loss of appetite.  When we recently saw him after his chainsaw incident, he was also presenting with similar symptoms to when he was very ill and his owners were very concerned that he may be having a reoccurrence.  As far as they could see, he had just sustained a very small laceration to his lip.  However, on closer inspection of his mouth to make sure that he hadn’t cut his tongue or gums, it was found that he had in fact severed his entire canine tooth off!!  Thankfully, after making sure that the results of a blood test were clear, this was determined to be the likely cause of him feeling a bit off!  His owners were so surprised as he didn’t even yelp when he made contact with the chainsaw, what a brave young man with a very high pain threshold!

Unfortunately, what little was left of Otto’s canine tooth needed to be removed as soon as possible, as the tooth root and pulp were left exposed, causing him great sensitivity and pain.  After a quick dental and tooth extraction, Otto has been feeling far better and has promised his Mum and Dad to stay well clear next time the chainsaw is on!
